The exhibition Books of Nature provides a glimpse of the extensive photographic works of the zoologist, mycologist, photographer, and filmmaker Václav Staněk (1907–1983), who started publishing his photos in the 1930s. At the start of the next decade he saw the publication of the first of his voluminous popular science photography publications. In these books, the thoroughness of this scientist, who took on the task of sharing knowledge about nature and the living creatures that are a part of it, was reflected in a combination of what was at the time a unique method of record keeping and highly aesthetic images. It was specifically from these books that the curators took the materials for the exhibition that is being held as a part of this year’s Fotograf Festival. The young artistic photographer Johana Pošová (born in 1985) has been invited as the exhibition’s guest.
